pepsi rebranding

Brand New reports the purported rehaul of Pepsi’s entire branding inventory :

More information at (Google cache link) :

NEW YORK ( — PepsiCo today said it will pour some $1.2 billion over three years into a push that will include sweeping changes to its brands, including what Chairman-CEO Indra Nooyi characterized as a revamp of “every aspect of the brand proposition for our key [carbonated soft drink] brands. How they look, how they’re packaged, how they will be merchandised on the shelves, and how they connect with consumers.

The white band in the middle of the logo will now loosely form a series of smiles. A “smile” will characterize brand Pepsi, while a “grin” is used for Diet Pepsi and a “laugh” is used for Pepsi Max. Also, Mountain Dew will be rebranded as Mtn Dew.

entrepreneurship : culture vs economy

Shweta writes :

I was talking to somebody yesterday, who recently returned from US, and he said that he expects to see more startups in India than in US, because it is so damn easier to survive here without earning.
That comment brought back to me something that happened on the last day of my job… I was retuning back in office sumo, and I saw people lined up for buses. I saw the typical long shirts wore on saggy pants, faces tanned by having to roam around in intense sunlight, and the sweat… I had the feeling I had when I talked to my parents about my decision to leave my cozy job. The feeling of being “ungrateful”.

I would liken the entrepreneurial spirit similar to the thousands of people who throng from rural India to Bombay in the hopes of making it big in Bollywood. Some of them are talented, some not, but every one of them arrives with a zealous ambition and hope, sacrificing social acceptance and the stability of daily life. I would like to believe that the appreciation for risk will slowly permeate Indian society. Call centers, telecom and technology companies have already affected many families. The parents don’t really understand what the son is doing or why he wears that eyebrow piercing, but the neighbor’s son just bought his dad a scooter and paid off the housing loan, so maybe this will work out for them too.

From NatGeo’s photogallery:

Massive beams of selenite dwarf human explorers in Mexico’s Cave of Crystals, deep below the Chihuahuan Desert. Formed over millennia, these crystals are among the largest yet discovered on Earth.

Insanely beautiful.

India’s first lunar mission is in orbit! I’m really excited about the next 15 days as it slingshots its way around the earth onto the moon:

No, you change the way you talk to me
I don’t care what you think or what you see in me
I’m done with your logic, “truths” and philosophy
I think it’s time you own up to your hypocrisy

Has it ever occurred to you that you might be wrong
that your drivel disgusts me but you go on and on
I’m not the one who needs the saving:
it’s not my friends, it’s you who’s depraving

I don’t care how and with what you justify
there are some things that you just can never hide
your scheming ways need to be laid to rest
you want ME to be sorry? it’s time YOU confessed.

You jumped the gun, and you took your turn, so
Go ahead beg mercy, go look for someone
to save you. But they’re probably parade you
in front of their kin, their near-to-heart
to show them how bad it gets
to exemplify what vilification begets

you’re probably beyond recognition now
stupidity has trapped you in its shroud
your conscience is now a battered sieve
that mind of yours has ceased to live

may this world be spared from your insanity
i hope some part of you faces reality
and looks it in the face to see
the monster you have come to be.

soothsaying bricks

Just so that everyone recognizes that I predicted this : Apple will launch a glorified iPod touch with a large capacity hard drive and fast networking, that is expected to be your “Personal Computing Device”, much like the Intel Personal Server

Suppose you’re traveling on business and carrying your personal server. You could sit down in front of any PC that has the necessary wireless capability and a small icon representing you would appear in a corner of the screen. When you clicked on the icon, it would expand to a much larger window, perhaps with a set of documents and applications that you are currently using, and you could access them in the same way as if you were sitting at your own computer.

Personal servers already exist in the market. The idea of a “shell” app on any Mac / PC that lets you use your iPod anywhere is pretty tempting to me — we finally have a world with all the infrastructure to support this. Well, maybe Apple wont. But someone really should — the time is right for this sorta stuff.
