Amit Agarwal has restarted the Hindi MovableType I'd once attempted. Looks pretty impressive so far.

clear danger

During the pesticide-in-your-drink fiasco, I was tempted to try the DS group's recently launched Catch Clear brand of flavoured water. The promos and packaging were not too shabby, so I thought it was worth spending one and a half times the amount I'd spend on a Coke.

And it was quite nice. Not worth 15 rupees, but still nice. It wasn't too fizzy - just the right amount of effervesence. The taste was a little like medicine, but the flavour made up for it. And the best part of them all: The calorie chart! It said: Zero Calories!! So here was my perfect drink- cold, fizzy, refreshing, no caffeine, and absolutely, zero, calories.

freepro

Blogger decides to upgrade
all their users to the Pro level. An obvious attempt to stay afloat after MT and Typepad's deluge, but they have to even better than this to actually survive.

It's probably some planetary alignment thing, I guess. Hope work troubles go away soon.

the secret is in the lemon

Due to the many failed attempts at making good mayonnaise sauce at home, I was a little wary about making it yesterday. I thought for a while about what could've gone wrong, and decided to do a bit of searching on the internet for the answer.

I was surprised by the answer: Lemon. By composition, mayonnaise is an emulsion of lemon juice and oil; with egg yolk acting as an emulsifying agent. How Stuff Works has a good write-up about this.

I've never added lemon before, and thus I always used to get frothy, oily goop that used to taste remotely like mayo, but was nothing like the tasty, creamy spread I got yesterday.

whoa!

The last time I was talking to Mahesh Shantaram, he told me he was planning a trip to Delhi. It seems that he's altered his plans a little. He's moving to Washington DC! Congratulations, Filterman.

IMproper communication

It seems both my instant messengers have gone crazy. People don't get all my messages, get them 5 minutes late, and sometimes I don't get their messages. It's a little frustrating, because miscommunication is much worse than no communication at all.

Come to think of it, Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger are both free services. I do not pay to peruse these services; so I can't really point a finger at them. Just like what's happened to free email - available, but unreliable. So just like email, instant messenging will also go paid? If it's not too expensive, I'd seriously consider

comatose again

After months of consideration, I've decided to pull the curtains on one of my babies, TimepassTown. The main page now says, "We'll be back." - I'm a little optimistic that I'll have a radical change of mind one day and get back to aimlessly putting in effort to maintain the site again. But till then, it's good night for TpT.

I'm desperately trying to streamline my life. Over these last few years, I've realized that trying to be a student/programmer/company-man all rolled into one is a little more than what I can handle right now.

um...

Regarding Maya, the spam harvester trap that I've set up; I forgot to add that I didn't write the script I'm using. While I did have a related idea about thwarting spammers (who happen to be sending about 60-70 junk emails every day to my TimepassTown.com inbox), I discovered a host of spam harvester traps that people have written in various languages. If you would like to contribute your bandwidth and set up a trap on your website, pick up a script from here. Be careful though. Make sure you properly configure your robots.txt file to stop the well behaved indexers like Google, etc.
