all nighter howto

How To Pull an All Nighter. Fairly comprehensive. I usually hate trance music, but it seems to speed up my work. The only thing I can add from my side is to do quick sprints in the department corridors, with occasional jumps, slapping the ceiling. This gives you the sudden burst of energy, and the jumping streches your tired muscles out.

naked white people

My flatmate discovers American shower rooms:

Upon entering- eyes shot out of sockets, brain did double take- before remembering that shower stalls in this wacko country are public. i.e. naked white people all around. Ran out screaming, never to return again.

I guess there should be a paragraph for this in every “USA for the Indian grad student” handbook. Hey, as long as they’re fine with ignoring my performance of The Great Indian Towel Trick, I’m fine with ignoring their, um, “open source” attitude.

The Great Indian Towel Trick is surprisingly undocumented by the web. Would make an ideal wikipedia entry, in my opinion.

interesting poetry

Found this somewhere, randomly:

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

The wikipedia has some interesting details about the lines.

bad music, evil music

“That music is the devil”, said the old-timers. Funny, maybe they were right.
